So, we get up this morning. Or should I say, John gets up this morning to drop the car off at the Audi dealer. Back in Arizona, we realized that we'd need to take the car in to a shop. The option was to change plans and head north up to Albuquerque or play through and continue on to Roswell, then on to Austin. The only problem was we'd need to cover some 700 miles of brutal weather before we could get the cooling system looked at. Some of you wrote to me saying that we should get it looked at right away. A cop even said we were a wee bit foolish. But he was in Arizona and probably didn't even like BBQ that much. Kendall, my partner in crime for a previous roadtrip, even suggested putting BBQ sauce in the radiator. While that would have smelled good and kept us reminded of what this was all about, it was decided that it might not suffice.

As you know from last night, we went for broke. Austin or bust. So John took the car in and we were still hoping to get the car back at the end of the day, so we could take off. But the Audi guy calls to tell us we ain't goin' nowhere. Accepting defeat, we decided to go to Texadelphia. There were actually a few BBQ places in Austin, but, I hate to admit it, we were still "Qued" out from the day before. But Texadelphia is a treat in itself. Texas beef prepared Philly cheesesteak style. Not to be missed. I asked for "whiz" on mine. They looked at me a little puzzled, then said I must mean Quesito. Whatever. Still darn good. Maybe even damn good

.

After lunch, we took a walk to take a look at my old place. Here. You can look at it too.

Another thing John & I had discussed doing on this trip was playing Disc Golf. Austin is a Disc Golf haven. So we played. It was really hot. So hot, in fact, that we had to buy new shirts after the game. We were drenched. Our sweat probably smelled like Au Jus. We're gonna try and play at some more places, but we're not sure we'll have the time. Maybe in Savannah or Charleston. Meat permitting.

After buying our new shirts, we got on a nice, air-conditioned bus and headed back to the hotel (which we had checked back in to) and took a swim.

After a swim and some rest, we decided it was time for more meat. But we were still a little scared of BBQ. So we went to Threadgill's. Chicken fried steak for John. Chicken fried chicken for me. All "vegetable" sides also contained meat.

From there, we went to Mother Egan's to meet my friend Carrie who lives in Austin. Carrie worked with me in SF at Darwin Digital (RIP). She now works at Mall.com. She is also on a Roller Derby team.

Austin has this 50s thing going on. I'm not quite sure what the deal is. But it's kinda cool. Austin is also kind of like an oasis. A cool (as in not lame) place in the middle of Texas. John & I stayed at Mother Egan's to watch some World Cup. They stayed open late. We were there till 3:30 watching Argentina/Sweden & England/Nigeria. They asked us to guzzle our beers at 2:15 'cause they had to get them off the table. We obliged.
